Favourites: Save and organise your personal song library
Your Favourites are your personal song library: one place to keep the songs you want to find and play again.
Instead of searching for the same songs every time you visit the site, save them to All Favourites. From there, you can organise them into smaller lists for practice, club nights, performances or songbooks.
Once a song is saved as a favourite, you can:
- Quickly reopen it whenever you return
- Include it in one or more sub-lists
- Arrange songs in playing order
- Download individual song sheets
- Create complete songbooks
- Save your preferred layout for each song
Your favourites are connected to your login, so they will be available on any device where you sign in.
π‘ Handy hints: Throughout this page, look for our Handy hints. These practical suggestions come from helpful feedback from our users and point out useful shortcuts and small details that can make Favourites easier to use.
Save songs you want to find and play again
When you find a song you may want to play again:
- Open the song.
- Tap the β₯ heart.
The song is added to All Favourites and will remain there until you remove it.
That is all you need to do to begin building your personal song collection.
Create sub-lists for practice, events and songbooks
All Favourites holds your complete song collection. Sub-lists help you organise selected songs for a particular purpose.
Once you have saved several songs, All Favourites can become a long list. You might create sub-lists for:
- Songs to practise
- Thursday Night Jam
- Christmas songs
- An upcoming performance
- Beginner songs
- A particular club or group
A song can be included in as many sub-lists as you like. For example, the same song could appear in Songs to Practise, Thursday Night Jam and Christmas Songs while still remaining in All Favourites.
To switch between lists, click the box at the top left that usually says All Favourites, then choose the list you want.
Create a new sub-list
- Click Add List above the list selector.
- Enter a name for the new list.
- Click the green Add List button to confirm.
Your new list will appear with zero songs in it.
π‘ Handy hint: If your new list does not appear, check that you clicked the second, green Add List button.
Add songs from All Favourites to a sub-list
- Switch to All Favourites.
- Tick the box beside each song you want to add.
- Click Copy Faves at the bottom.
- Choose the sub-list where you want the songs added.
- Click Copy.
Songs are copied into a sub-list, not moved. They remain in All Favourites and can also appear in other sub-lists.
Remove songs from one list or your complete collection
Remove Selected takes the selected songs out of the list you are currently viewing.
- In a sub-list, the songs are removed only from that list. They remain in All Favourites.
- In All Favourites, the songs are removed from your complete favourites collection.
π‘ Handy hint: If you want to remove songs from only one sub-list, switch to that sub-list before clicking Remove Selected.
Select several songs to manage them together
Select songs when you want to do something with several of them at once. For example, you might select songs to:
- Copy them to a sub-list
- Remove them from a list
- Save PDFs
- Download individual song sheets
- Create a songbook
Tick the box beside each song you want to use, then choose an action.
- Check All selects every song in the list you are viewing.
- Uncheck All clears all selections.
Arrange songs in the order you want them played
Drag the songs into the order in which you want them to appear or be played.
You can also use the My Order dropdown to save by Title, Key or Number of chords.
If you click on the Save Order button after moving or sorting the songs then they will open next time in the same order
Songs appear in a ZIP file or songbook in the same order shown on the screen.
π‘ Handy hint: Arrange the songs before creating your ZIP file or songbook. The order you see on the screen is the order you will get in the finished file.
Save your preferred song layouts as PDFs
You can change how an individual song looks before printing it or adding it to a songbook.
For example, you might:
- Increase the text size
- Change the chord-diagram size
- Move the chord diagrams
- Adjust the margins
- Fit the song onto one page
- Use left-handed chord diagrams
If you get a song looking exactly the way you want, you can save that version as your own PDF.
Saving your own PDF has two benefits:
- Future songbooks can use the layout you already created.
- Songbooks are much faster to build because the PDF does not have to be created again.
You can keep up to 40 saved PDFs at a time.
Preview the printed page after editing a song
Click the printer icon at the top right after editing a song. The print preview will show you how the song will look on the printed page.
Use the preview to check the layout and adjust the font size, margins and other settings. You can reopen it as often as needed until the song looks right.
π‘ Handy hint: Press Done before opening the print preview. Until you do, the preview shows the last saved version of the song, not the changes you have just made.
π‘ Handy hint: Preview the song before saving its PDF. The saved PDF will use the layout and settings you have chosen.
Check whether a song already has a saved PDF
Each song has a small mark on the right:
| Mark | What it means | Click it to |
|---|---|---|
| β Green | You have saved your own PDF | Save or update it |
| β Red | You have not saved a PDF | Create one now |
Hover over a green tick to see when the PDF was saved.
Clicking the tick or cross is the quickest way to save one individual song.
Save PDFs for several songs at once
- Get each song looking the way you want it.
- Tick the songs you want to save.
- Click πΎ Save PDF.
Each PDF takes about 3 to 5 seconds to create. Saving 10 songs usually takes less than a minute, and you will see the system work through them.
π‘ Handy hint: Adjust the song's font size, margins, chord diagrams and other settings before saving. The PDF saves the song exactly as it appears in the print preview.
Saving a song again replaces the previous PDF. It does not use another one of your 40 available spaces.
Remove saved PDFs you no longer need
- Tick the songs with a green β.
- Click π PDF from the dropdown options
The π PDF button appears only when every selected song has a saved PDF.
π‘ Handy hint: If you remove a song from All Favourites, its saved PDF is removed too.
Remove PDFs for several songs at once
- Tick the songs you want to remove.
- Click the πΎ Delete saved PDF's button.
π‘ Handy hint: This does not delete the favourite - just the saved PDF
Use Auto-save to remember your song settings
Auto-save remembers changes you make to the settings of a favourite song. For most people, leaving it on is the easiest option.
The toggle is in the bar at the top of the page.
| Setting | What happens |
|---|---|
| On (green) | Changes to the song's settings are remembered automatically |
| Off (red) | Changes are not remembered until you save them yourself |
If Auto-save is off, you can still save a song's settings yourself. Once a song is a favourite the heart becomes a yellow star, and clicking that star saves the song's current settings.
Download individual songs or combine them into a songbook
Once you have selected and arranged your songs, click Zip/Songbook.
You will see three choices:
| Choice | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Download Zip of PDFs | Each selected song as a separate PDF in one download | Keeping individual song sheets or emailing several songs |
| Create Lyrics Songbook | One PDF containing lyrics only, without chords | Singers or screen projection |
| Create Songbook | One PDF containing the complete song sheets and your cover text | A finished songbook for a group |
If you use left-handed chord diagrams, the left-handed version of each song will be included.
Add cover text to identify your songbook
Anything entered in the Cover page text box will appear on the cover of a songbook made from the list.
For example:
- Thursday Night Jam
- Christmas Singalong
- Your club name
- A performance date
- An event name
Use the two boxes to select and update songs
Each song has two selection boxes:
| Box | What it does |
|---|---|
| First box | Includes the song in the ZIP file or songbook |
| Second box (orange) | Creates a fresh PDF using the song's current settings |
Use the first box to choose which songs to include.
Use the orange second box when you have changed a song and want the latest settings used in the new songbook.
Songs you created yourself begin with the orange box ticked because there is no standard version available.
Choose which version of each song to use
When you create a songbook, the system can use:
- A fresh PDF made from the song's current settings
- Your previously saved PDF
- The standard PDF
It chooses the version in this order:
| If⦠| The songbook uses⦠|
|---|---|
| The orange box is ticked | A fresh PDF made with the current settings |
| Use my saved PDFs is on and you have saved one | Your saved PDF |
| Use my saved PDFs is on but you have not saved one | The standard PDF |
| Neither option is selected | The standard PDF |
π‘ Handy hint: The orange box takes priority. When it is ticked, a fresh PDF is created using the song's current settings.
Songs you created yourself do not have a standard PDF. The system must either use your saved PDF or create a fresh one.
Use your saved layouts throughout a songbook
Use my saved PDFs tells the system to use your saved song layouts throughout the songbook whenever one is available.
For the quickest way to create a songbook that looks the way you want:
- Adjust each song.
- Check it using the printer icon.
- Save the finished version using πΎ Save PDF.
- Select Use my saved PDFs when creating the songbook.
Know how long your songbook will take to create
| Type of PDF | Typical speed |
|---|---|
| Saved or standard PDF | Almost instant |
| Freshly created PDF | About 3 to 5 seconds per song |
The orange boxes show which songs need fresh PDFs. This lets you see whether your songbook will be ready almost immediately or may take a few minutes.
